Connecting at Cloudhead

We’ve made it to December and… Wait, December?! Anyone else feeling the passage of time in full force this month? 😅

Though, a lot has happened –

For instance, Cloudhead had the opportunity to visit several industry events such as GDC and Meta Connect – two conferences we look forward to every year.

On the Pistol Whip side of things, another year has come to pass since the release of our heart pumping, flagship title. We had a blast celebrating with you all during our Happy Whippin’ Anniversary giveaway  – but we’ve also had several opportunities to work with other studios on community events throughout the year. From Triple Sweat with Resolution Games & Kluge Interactive, to the Rise of the Beat with Kluge Interactive & Double Jack/Creature. We’re always so grateful to work with other industry folks to put events like these together for players.

Outside of Pistol Whip, Cloudheadians have been busy as we continue to be heads down working on our new title – we can’t wait for you (and your friends!) to see what we’re working on.

But what do all these things have in common?

Connection.

Connecting with the industry, connecting with other studios, and of course connecting as a team.

What does connection look like for Cloudhead? We’re so happy you asked:

Connecting as a Studio (in Person)

In 2024 we brought the whole team to Whistler. From improv workshops, to rock climbing and escape rooms, the ability to share in our laughter and in-person activities was an occasion for the teams to get to know each other beyond the limitations of a screen. We showed off our axe throwing skills, shared a meal, and delighted in watching our CEO, Denny Unger knock it out of the park at karaoke (who knew we had some vocal talent on the Cloudhead team!)

While the whole team together in that capacity is fantastic, trying to gather folks from all over the country in one place would be challenging to do on a yearly basis. But IRL time is still so essential – which is why we found a way to make that happen in 2025.

3 Parties, 3 Days, 3 Locations

Starting in the west, our Vancouver Cloudheadians met up at Steamworks Brew Pub and hung out in the Uber Lounge for some general mixing and mingling over canapes and drinks. Our folks across the Georgia Straight, on Van Isle, went to Camas Restaurant in Lantzville – and had the whole place to themselves! The Eastern Canada team hit the streets of Toronto and spent time at the Rec Room indulging in copious amounts of arcade games, delicious food, and excellent conversation.

Connecting as a Studio (Virtually)

Outside of connecting in person, our Culture Club is constantly coming up with fantastic ways for the team to get together virtually. Here are a handful of ways we like to connect in a work from home environment:

Halloweenery

We LOVE Halloween here – which makes for a great excuse to get the team together for spooky activities, a costume contest, and of course, lunch on Cloudhead.

This year, our Art Specialist, Sarah Roland, hosted a virtual spooky movie hangout. The team voted from a list of classics before piling into Discord and watching Cabin in the Woods – an ultimate cult classic. Cloudheadians also had the option to play spooky games with our Social Media and Community Specialist, Sam Gee (15 person Lethal Company lobby, anyone?).

What’s a Halloween Party without costumes?

End O’ Year Virtual Party

Every year the whole studio comes together virtually for one last team sync up to celebrate the team and all that we accomplished. While this year’s virtual party is still in its planning stages, we can’t wait to reflect back on everything we’ve done this year before 2025 comes to a close.

Connecting With the Industry

Meta Connect came and went in a flash once again this year – but we’re always thrilled to visit the Meta Campus in San Francisco back in September. The team kept busy over the two day event checking out the Developer roundtables, filling up on (free) coconut frozen yogurt, and seeing new and exciting Meta announcements live.

Though the year is almost over, we still have more events to attend! Get in touch with Jo Dunlop, our CBO, who will be hitting up the Hollywood and Games conference on December 11th. We’re looking forward to catching up with fellow industry friends, and of course, building new connections!

See you there!

Love,

Cloudhead Games ❤️
